Main Article Content
Abstract
Hesiod's poetic endeavor will provide the first female archetype: Pandora. Constructed in opposition to the male and with no guarantee of the human condition, her nature is dark and destructive. The matriarch of the female’s genos is the introducer of evil and the first mistress of deceit, artifice, and lies. This hesiodic characterization, based on biological determinism, will be imposed on all women. It will allow the justification of patriarchy. Because the only way to contain the danger of woman is her domestication, her taming, through marriage.
