The Meaning of Work in Three Women from Guadalajara, Mexico: Gender, Class and Generation

Abstract

 On one hand, the topic of this research relates to the scope of the studies on the actual meaning of work. On the other hand, it relates to the study of the link between such meaning and the construction of identities. A study was conducted at the crossroads of both lines of research, with the aim of understanding the relationship between the meaning of work and the construction of gender identity through the examination of the narratives of the life paths of three middle-class women from Guadalajara, Mexico, of three successive generations of a single family. This research work presents some of the results obtained from such examination.
