Abstract

In the last third of the 19th century, the Spanish Upper House, due to its own internal tripartite composition, increasingly functioned as a platform for the communication of provincial interests, at a time when regional identities and the liberal state were taking shape. Certain pressure groups, such as the Ligas de Propietarios or the Reales Sociedades Económicas de Amigos del País, played a decisive role. The main aim of this article is to introduce the parliamentary activity of Valencian senators in the Upper House between 1876 and 1902 by examining archival documentation from the Senate's digitised collections. In particular, its political involvement in the urban, agrarian and social fields.
