Abstract

The article analyzes the forms of punishment used in rural communities during the Restoration
period. Social conflicts were the scene in which diverse and changing forms of punishment were deployed
between contestants. These punishments allow us to examine the norms and values that regulated
collective coexistence in rural communities, the ways in which conflicts were managed and control over
neighbors was exercised. The political dispute and the new forms of social mobilization that appeared in
these decades led to changes in the management of the conflict and the use of punishment. These changes
allow to observe the transformation of ideas, identities and social relations in the local environment.
