PORTRAITS OF PROMOTERS OF TOBACCO CULTIVATION AND ARTISTIC REPRESENTATIONS OF THE PLEASURABLE HABIT IN THE CANARY ISLANDS (19th-20th CENTURIES)
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study is a contribution to knowledge of the tobacco culture of the Canary Islands during the 19th and 20th centuries. The Islands were out of the Spanish tobacco monopoly since 1852 and took their own path. The broadly under- stood image, as a social projection, as a sign of identity, helps us understand this historical journey that distinguishes the archipelago from the rest of Spain.
