Estratègies per a la subtitulació d'expressions idiomàtiques i proverbis egipcis en anglès

Resum
Algunes plataformes, com Netflix, ofereixen subtítols de diferents obres i pel·lícules en diversos idiomes, com ara l'àrab i l'anglès. En aquest estudi, els investigadors analitzen les estratègies utilitzades per superar els reptes a què s'enfronten els subtituladors a l'hora de traduir expressions idiomàtiques i proverbis egipcis a l'anglès. Es va compilar des de zero un corpus paral·lel de quatre pel·lícules, és a dir, تيتا رهيبة L'àvia, عسل أسود Bittersweet, الباشا تلميذ The Student cop, i عمارة يعقوبيان Yacoubian Building. Les expressions idiomàtiques i els proverbis es van identificar i analitzar segons les taxonomies de Baker (Baker, 1992). L'estratègia de traducció més utilitzada per traduir proverbis va ser la “paràfrasi”. En traduir expressions idiomàtiques, els subtituladors van recórrer sobretot a l'estratègia de "traduir parafrasejant utilitzant paraules no relacionades per tractar l'expressió no equivalent". En alguns casos es van detectar "errors de traducció", molt probablement a causa de la manca de coneixement de la cultura meta i de no trobar equivalents apropiats. De vegades, els subtituladors van recórrer a la traducció literal, cosa que va distorsionar el significat i va donar lloc a traduccions poc naturals. Els resultats també van revelar que algunes expressions que s'utilitzaven repetidament a les pel·lícules es traduïen de manera diferent segons el context. Aquest estudi pot ser beneficiós per a traductors i estudiants de traducció, especialment per a aquells interessats a subtitular pel·lícules i traduir proverbis i expressions idiomàtiques.
