Pragmatics of texts and social debate on COVID-19: denialist strategies, liberalism and communitarianism

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused upheaval to the world society, now more globalized than ever, with consequences still unclear. The role of science as a social reference has been affected to the extent that it is asked for answers that can often be but provisional and that generate contradictions in the management of the health emergency. We have analysed various argumentative strategies of the denialist discourse, as well as the debate between the liberal and communitarian perspectives when applying and justifying a management that has generated conflicts between executive and judicial powers. This issue is examined in a case study referring to the forced confinement of students in Mallorca in the summer of 2021, which sparked media controversy.
