Edwin Lutyens' design of the Delhi order An orientalist proposal from the classical tradition for a model of Imperial capital (1914-1944)
Main Article Content
Abstract
This text deals with the study of a new model of architectural order, the Delhi order, in the context of the construction of a new British capital in India. The study focuses on the revision of previously established interpretations, the analysis of sources and the 3D reconstruction of Edwin Lutyens' designs. In the development of this work, the basis for new interpretations of the origin of the formal elements of the capital and the reasons for its symbolism are established. Finally, the interpretative guidelines of its use as an imperial symbol are established, in order to understand the contradictions of its simultaneous success and failure as a form of representation of power.
