Resumo

Death is deeply disturbing to people, who find in religion both a meaning and ceremonies and rites which help them “control” death while making salvation possible. The existence of different groups within different societies also becomes apparent in the way each of the groups celebrates these rites through which their characteristics and mentality are revealed. Documents, chronicles and chivalresque fiction written in the Kingdom of Aragon present a specific pattern developed by and for the aristocracy and royalty; a pattern which !s common to these two social groups throughout medieval western Europe. The chronology of these writings proves how this ceremonial and its inherent meaning survive from the 13th to the 15th century
