Abstract

The crime of sedition is today in the crosshairs of jurists and politicians. It is said that its current regulation is indebted, to a great extent, to its nineteenth-century origin and to having been treated as a rebellion with less serious consequences. If we inquire into its legal evolution, from the first criminal codes, and into the questions already raised by the jurists who studied them, we may be in a position to discern when the statements made today about this crime respond to reality or they are rather a consequence of conjunctural political conveniences. There is no doubt that we are dealing with one of the issues in which the usefulness of studying our legal past is most clearly evident.
