IT’S NOT ABOUT 30 PESOS, IT’S ABOUT 30 YEARS! CHILE (1988-2019). THE FAILURES OF THE TRANSITION AND THE CHILEAN ECONOMIC MODEL?

Abstract

In this paper we analyse, from the perspective of the history of the present, some of the
causes that lead to generalized discomfort that questioned the "successes" of Chile post-
dictatorship. The paper address, some of the processes that shaped a Chile that, at the end
of the first decade of the 21st century, evidenced both the permanence and the emergence
of important historical problems in the economic, social and political order, that allow
understand the broad demand for change summarized in the slogans of "Chile woke up"
and "They are not 30 pesos, they are 30 years".
