Abstract

In this paper we examine delinquent and criminal activity in the city of Havana during the first decades of the nineteenth century, paying particular attention to social and economic conditions. We are interested in the consequences of the plantation’s expansion into the urban sectors, the limits established by skin colour when it come to considering crime, and the repressiom of vagrancy as a way of “driving” marginal sectors.
