Participatory Institutional Strategies in an Art Museum. The Tactics of Caraffa Museum (Córdoba, Argentina) and of Castagnino Museum (Rosario, Argentina)

Abstract

The article proposes an analysis of the participatory institutional strategies carried out by the Provincial Museum of Fine Arts Emilio Caraffa (Córdoba, Argentina) and by the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts Juan B. Castagnino (Rosario, Argentina), to delimit what organizational profiles they are promoting by putting the public at the center of their dynamics. This implies the need to discuss not only the different meanings of the notion of participation, but also, and essentially, different basic forms of participation –recoverable in tactics that come from general and particular aspects– when convening the public. In this way, it is promoted to review whether art museums are articulating the artistic with the social or, on the contrary, they privilege one of these dimensions.
