Analysis of Metaphorical Expression in Therapeutic Interactions: Couple Relationship and Conflict

Abstract
This study analyses the metaphorical expressions and their corresponding conceptual metaphors used in a corpus of recordings of seven therapeutic interactions involving two therapists and four couples. The couples seek to resolve their relationship problems and family conflicts through a of 20-session program in the E(f)FECTS (Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy in Spanish) research project. The research aims to identify the types and recurrences of metaphors used by the different couples and therapists in relation to their experiences as a couple, in reference to one of the partners or to the therapy itself. The hypothesis is that the categorization of metaphorical expressions and their profusion may provide insight into the level of conflict present within the couple.
