The representation of prostitution as a scenario without male frustrations: an approach to the discourses of men who demand female prostitution
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article presents the results of a qualitative research in which in-depth interviews have been carried out with male buyers of female prostitution in Spain. Taking the theoretical tool of Carole Pateman's Sexual contract, the reinforcement of prostitution nowadays is analyzed. Prostitution is seem as a scenario for the reconstruction of the gender order in patriarchal terms. The discourses of the men who have taken part in the research show the continuous comparison established between public and private women and the representation of prostitution as a scenario in which it is expected to find no limits -or frustration- to male sexual desire.
