Josefina Vicens: Maternidades, melodrama y cine popular en México

Abstract

This paper aims to contribute to the visibility of the production strategies of a highly commercially profitable cinema in the sixties in Mexico. Los novios de mis hijas (1964), El día de las madres (1969), Los problemas de mamá (1970) y El juicio de los hijos (1971) constitute the corpus of the study. In them, the participation of their screenwriter Josefina Vicens is relevant to understanding the inclusion of original twists on motherhood, the role of women in romantic relationships and the implementation of strategies to include mature-aged actresses in family melodramas.
