Los funerales patrioticos valencianos: similitudes y diferencias con las exequias reales del siglo XIX

Abstract

In front of the historical tradition of celebrating solemn funerals for the royal people, in the XIX century the appearance of other kind of ceremonial funerals appeared, wich are celebrated in the honor of the hero, figure that adopts considerable historical importance because of the political events of ihe XIX century in Spain. Studing the case of «valenciano» we can say that these patriotic funerals began, basicly, from the patterns taken from the royal funerals presenting some innovations in the ceremony and in the symbolic content, while the stylistic characteristics of the cenotaphs remain without change.
