Abstract

Precursor of the so-called «museology of rupture», the men constitutes, even today, a singular institution within the European museum scene. Since the 1980s, the Museum has sought, at the hands of its successive directors –Hainard and Gonseth–, to become a space for cultural deconstruction; their temporary exhibitions were aimed at decoding the rules of social functioning and reflecting, among other topics, on the processes of production of stereotypes and ideologies. For different reasons, the permanent exhibition remained unchanged for a long time. A new proposal was then released in 2017. In the present work, we critically analyze its (current) permanent exhibition. We intend to show its peculiarities while pointing out some of
the limitations and risks that, in our opinion, accompany this project.
