Abstract

This article presents Konstandinos P. Kavafis' relationship with the Egyptian cultural and political reality of his time. More specifically, we try to show how the attitude of the great poet from Alexandria towards the Egyptian world changed considerably over the years, from a clear indifference –not to mention, in some cases, an evident contempt– to a growing sympathy and affinity with the struggle of the Egyptian people against the English dominators and with their desire for freedom.
