Abstract

The aim of this article is to study the memory of the journey made by the artist Aristides Maillol (Banyuls de la Marenda [Roussillon], 1861-1944) to Greece in 1908 in the company of the German count and patron Harry Kessler and the Austrian writer Hugo von Hofmannsthal. This memory has been preserved in a diary written in the field as well as in conversations held with his disciple Henri Frère (1908-1986) and with the Catalan writer from the Roussillon Josep Sebastià Pons (1886-1962) once Maillol had returned to Banyuls. The main sources of information are, apart from the above-mentioned diary, the private archive of the Frère-Pons family.
