Main Article Content
Abstract
The present article, based on meticulous research (both field and archival), which began in 1984 and continues today, focuses on the arduouspath of the Greek language of Calabria (greco, grecanica) over time, with special emphasis on the last two centuries. The "discovery" of Greek-speaking populations (early 19th century), the "awakening of hellenity" in the area (since the late 1960s), the recovery of linguistic and social prestige after a long period of devaluation, marginalization and decline, as well as Greek languagecontribution as a cultural and economic resource of the wider area, constitute its main axes.
