Abstract

The Media must add to the first big economical crisis in the 21st century a deep crisis of the newspaper industry and a process of transformation brought about the consolidation of the Internet. That fact has revolutionized society as a whole, making their special mark in specific areas, particularly the Media. In that context we must raise to information companies the need to adapt to the new reality in order to survive, finding a business model that works in the current scenario, without forgetting their social function. The present text has been constructed from theoretical contributions and valuations from the professional world -including unpublished material from in-depth interviews to professionals of the Grupo Godó digital division- it reviews challenges and opportunities of the Media at the present time. For instance, the current technology allows the Media, in the digital environment, to know the preferences and behavoir of your audience, increasingly active and protagonist through many channels of interaction and dialogue. The posibility of learning more about their public is a big opportunity to the journalism on the Internet, but it can also give priority to commercial criteria above other journalistic criteria.
