Abstract
The methods and categories of analysis of Orientalism,
postcolonial theory and structuralism are applied to the opera „Salomé“
of R. Strauss. A reading of the work is developed that fi nds two separate
but interrelated postulates, namely those of Western (cultural and
political) dominance as well as of male dominance.
