El imperio planetario de los Habsburgo legitimó sus aspiraciones universalistas a través de alegorías, símbolos y representaciones que emparentaban a sus miembros con los grandes héroes mitológicos y bíblicos como arquetipos políticos. Entre estas alegorías, la Imago Sapientiae adquiere una relevante presencia como virtud para sacralizar las aspiraciones políticas de los monarcas hispánicos durante la Edad Media y la Edad Moderna, fundamentalmente bajo los reinados de Carlos V y Felipe II. La Sabiduría se convertirá en el modelo arquetípico para el buen gobierno, materializándose a través de la encarnación de los reyes bíblicos David y Salomón, paradigmas de Sabiduría.
The Habsburg planetary empire legitimized its universalist aspirations through allegories, symbols and representations that related its members to the great mythological and biblical heroes as political archetypes. Among these allegories, the Imago Sapientiae acquires a relevant presence as a virtue to sacralize the political aspirations of Hispanic monarchs during the Middle Ages and the Modern Age, mainly under the reigns of Charles V and Philip II. Wisdom will become the archetypal model for good government, materialized through the incarnation of the biblical kings David and Solomon, paradigms of Wisdom.
