Cultural features and challenges in a tourism article in French and its translated version in English
Main Article Content
Abstract
The main aim of this paper is to examine the challenges of translating tourism texts, with a specific focus on the French and English languages. To this end, we will conduct a comparative study of an article written in French and its English translation, both of which were published in the same magazine. Apart from the inherent complexity of conveying a message from one language to another, the subject of this article focuses on the Spanish island of Ibiza, which presents a cultural context that is unfamiliar to both French and English readers. This context gives rise to a number of challenges, including how to translate or adapt the names of traditions, gastronomic terms and names of dishes. Ultimately, this study aims to contribute to the existing body of research and literature which argues that this field of translation is a specialized form of translation that differs from general translating.
