S'ha dut a terme un estudi qualitatiu de casos múltiples per comprendre com els estudiants vietnamites de secundària (n=6) perceben l'aprenentatge de la gramàtica, explorant els punts de vista sobre el paper de la gramàtica i l'ús que fan de les estratègies d'aprenentatge de la mateixa. Les entrevistes individuals semiestructurades són el principal instrument de recollida de dades en aquest estudi. A partir d'una anàlisi de contingut inductiu, descobrim que tots els estudiants participants reconeixen el paper fonamental de la gramàtica en l'aprenentatge de l'anglès, i que la majoria segueixen aprenent la gramàtica anglesa mitjançant l'enfocament tradicional. Tot i la diferència en l'enfocament d'ensenyament a què estaven exposats els estudiants, tots ells van demostrar un enfocament estratègic per a l'aprenentatge de la gramàtica, la gestió de l'entorn i del comportament i les estratègies cognitives són les més populars. Els resultats poden ajudar els professors d'anglès a ajustar-ne l'enfocament i les tècniques d'ensenyament per maximitzar els èxits gramaticals dels estudiants i millorar les estratègies efectives d'aprenentatge de la gramàtica per obtenir beneficis a llarg termini. L'estudi contribueix a la investigació sobre les actituds dels estudiants asiàtics d'EFL/ESL cap a l'aprenentatge de la gramàtica i l'ús de les estratègies d'aprenentatge de la gramàtica.
