Urbicidio en la Franja de Gaza Reconfiguración territorial y urbanismo de la asfixia (2023-2025)
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study examines the urban transformation of Gaza during the Israeli offensive of 2023–2025 in the context of the Arab-Israeli conflict. To this end, it adopts an interdisciplinary approach that integrates historical analysis, critical urban geography, cartography, and documentary review. Urban warfare is presented as a strategy of territorial reconfiguration and social control in which the concept of “urbanism of suffocation” is used to describe the processes of selective destruction of essential infrastructure, such as that related to energy, water, health and education. The research also observes the blockade of logistical hubs and the neutralisation of subsistence centres, which causes spatial fragmentation and dependence on humanitarian aid. The research identifies nine offensive phases, characterised by bombings, sieges, demolitions and border closures, which have drastically altered the physical and social configuration of the enclave. The maps and cartographic series document the correlation between the expansion of evacuated areas or areas declared “red zones” and the loss of basic services. They also reveal patterns of military advance and territorial transformation that alter the dynamics of mobility, habitability and subsistence.
