Abstract

The integration of young people is crucial to the demographic and social sustainability of the rural environment in Spain, in which, a priori, conditions are unsuitable for young people to settle. This article reflects on the role that rural development policies and structures play in the continuity of the young population, based on the results of three studies carried out in Andalusia. The findings show the generalization of a pessimistic discourse among young people and the limitations of local action groups to connect and promote appropriate measures for this group, but also the potential and main challenges to achieve their integration.
