Abstract

From public space, to a city as an organic hipertext

Capital privatizes the material city space while creating new and virtual spaces for meeting and exchange. Virtual and physical encounters occur and interact in the contemporary city, altering our notion of shared space. Fragmenting as it expands, this space reproduces itself to appear in new, technically administered meeting places. The oral word, transmitted by word of mouth, along with the friction of bodies in the city’s communal spaces, are transformed into virtual data, susceptible to the fleeting multiplicity of information which characterizes the urban landscape of the modern city, a kind of organic hypertext.

This article explores the logic and new grammar, which arise from these urban and trans-urban spaces, where the material and the organic interact.
