Abstract

This article reflects on a different museum space, the Cultural Development Center (CDC) of the city of Chihuahua, Mexico, which consists of a modest space of just over 200 m2 and is located in the down town of the city with free access for the general population. The reflection shows a chronological review of the main exhibitions presented in this space, from its foundation in 2013 until the end of 2021. In the following story, it can be concluded that its programming, strategic location and free services offered, place the CDC as a democratic space where the population can have access to exhibitions of various kinds, ranging from artists of universal art to urban endemic expressions of the community. The various government agencies do not consider that the CDC falls into the museum category and indeed it would not be if classical canons about what a museum is were taken into account., however, not being recognized as such has not stopped its activity and has become one of the most visited spaces in the city.
