ChatGPT y la traducción inglés-español de elementos culturales específicos: expresiones idiomáticas y proverbios

Resumen

El contexto de la enseñanza superior (ES) ha experimentado cambios importantes con la introducción de nuevas herramientas digitales en el aula de inglés como lengua extranjera (ILE). La aparición de la Inteligencia Artificial (IA) ofrece una amplia gama de posibilidades en el campo de la enseñanza-aprendizaje, especialmente para desarrollar las competencias de escritura de los estudiantes. En el contexto de la traducción, la aplicación de la IA para traducir elementos culturales específicos, como proverbios y expresiones idiomáticas, sigue siendo un reto tanto para los educadores como para los estudiantes.


Este estudio tiene como objetivo integrar ChatGPT en tareas de expresión escrita, como parte del curso de Lingüística Aplicada a la Traducción Inglés-Español en el Grado en Estudios Ingleses. En concreto, esta investigación tiene como objetivo explorar (1) la idoneidad de esta herramienta para traducir elementos culturales específicos, (2) cómo las traducciones que proporciona ChatGPT fomentan la creatividad y el pensamiento crítico de los estudiantes, y (3) las percepciones de los estudiantes en cuanto al uso de la plataforma ChatGPT como herramienta de aprendizaje. Además, el estudio explora las percepciones de los estudiantes universitarios sobre el uso de la IA para la traducción a través de un cuestionario creado en Google Forms.


Se espera que los estudiantes utilicen esta herramienta para traducir textos de complejidad media-alta (proverbios y modismos) desde un punto de vista lingüístico, idiomático o cultural a través de dos tareas en línea integradas en la plataforma Moodle (Lecciones).


Finalmente, aunque los estudiantes consideran que ChatGPT es una herramienta eficiente para la traducción inglés-español con un gran potencial futuro, este estudio sugiere que todavía tiene margen de mejora, dado que arroja resultados aún alejados del ámbito profesional.
