A diferencia de otros grupos sociales (extranjeros, ladrones, esclavos, etc.) el caso de las mujeres romanas es complejo. Si bien son congéneres, al mismo tiempo, constituyen un grupo heterogéneo en cuanto a los diversos estatutos sociales de sus integrantes. En consecuencia, su representación convoca una variedad de estereotipos. No obstante ello, el objetivo de este trabajo es demostrar que dichos esquemas cristalizados comparten rasgos que confirman la precedencia del género sobre otras categorías como la edad o el estatus social. La persistente caracterización del discurso femenino como desmedido, hiperbólico y falaz en textos latinos de diferentes géneros y épocas confirma esta tesis.

Abstract
In contrast to other social groups such as foreigners, thieves, slaves, etc., the case of Roman women is complex. They are fellow human beings but, at the same time, their social status is diverse. This situation makes them a heterogeneous group, whose representation, therefore, calls for a wide variety of stereotypes. Nevertheless, the aim of this paper is to show the features these crystallized schemas have in common, in order to confirm the precedence of gender over other categories such as age or social status. The persistent description of female speech as excessive, hyperbolic and deceitful in Latin texts from different genres and periods supports this thesis.
