Abstract

The main objective of this article is to systematize the workflow of the award-winning webdoc Birth in the 21st Century to understand the confluence between the innovative creative process and the involvement of different actors within an innovation ecosystem of the communication sector in Spain which is based on a specific interactive digital narrative. To do this, an empirical research of the creative process of this webdoc has been carried out based on four semi-structured in-depth interviews with all the agents responsible for this format (Barret Cooperativa/RTVE Lab/À Punt Mèdia/Datadista) together with the analysis of the creative dossier and navigation model provided by Cooperativa Valencia Barret for the purposes of this article. The results obtained show an open model of circular production in which the creative freedom of independent producers is respected and each agent adds value from their technical specialty, at the same time that a collaborative business culture is generated, sponsored by the advice and financial support of public television corporations. The need for standardization of user experience testing processes is detected, as well as the creation of internal protocols for evaluating the success factors of the interactive digital narrative studied.
