Abstract

The paper describes the current situation of the metaverse and some of the technologies on which it is based. XR technologies, extended reality, integrate those of augmented reality (AR) and those of virtual reality (VR). In the XR world, capturing actual content depends on factors that make rendering difficult, versus rendering synthetic (3D) content. But it's not just content creation issues that the metaverse faces, it's also visualization challenges. This and other issues show a panorama of possibilities and also obstacles.
